It’s been a busy period and took a month since my last post. However, while I was guiding I took the chance to make more photos of the different places I visited with the tourists. Let me take you around the Ohrid Lake, oldest lake in Europe and the 3rd oldest lake in the world, and show you the beauties that I see every day. Some of the photos are taken from the lake, some from the land.
2/3 of Ohrid Lake belongs to Macedonia and 1/3 to Albania. There are two cities on Macedonian side – Ohrid and Struga, and one city on Albania side – Pogradec, as well as many small villages.
We start this trip with the view from the mountain Galicica. The lake is surrounded by the National Park Galicica on Macedonian side and the mountain Mokra on the Albanian side of the lake.
Now, where else if not in Ohrid. There is so much to tell about the city but now we stick to the views of the lake. And the best spot for a shooting is at Kaneo.
Don’t miss to take some of the small boats and use the unique opportunity to see the city from the water.
Yes, He jumped, unfortunately, I didn’t manage to make a good photo of the jump.
No matter where you are in the old city you can enjoy the spectacular view of the lake.
We continue around the lake in a direction to St. Naum monastery and the Macedonian-Albanian border. On the way, you will see the Museum on water “Bay of Bones”.
View to the National Park Galicica:
If you make this trip with a boat on the way after the village Trpejca you will see the church St. Mary Zahumska. The only way you can go there is by water.
Next, we arrive at the monastery of St. Naum. Place where the human and nature worked together and created this masterpiece.
When you are here, taking a small rowing boat to the springs of the river Black Drim is a must do.
After the procedure on the border to enter Albania, you will be welcomed by the many bunkers, some of them painted with symbols of peace, like this ladybug.
The lake is so big that you’ll have a feeling like you are on the sea coast.
On the way between Pogradec and the village Lin you will see many aquariums with fish for sale. This is my favorite salesman, I would have definitely bought the fish from him if I wasn’t with a bus full of tourists.
I’m especially proud of my photos from the small village Lin on the coast of Ohrid Lake on the Albanian side of the lake. I go there 2-3 times a week and every time I have some new photo and it was difficult to choose only a few for this post.
It’s interesring to walk between the houses to the lake, there is always some surprise at the end, like these girls:
I like this small house because if both doors are open you can see the lake through the house.
After crossing the border on the other side we will arrive in Struga. This is the place where the river Black Drim flows out of Ohrid Lake.
I wish I could capture every place on the coast of the lake. This is just a tiny portion of the beauties you can see here. Of course the best way is if you come to Ohrid Lake and enjoy it with all your senses.
Beautiful photos! I travelled across the Balkans for two months and Ohrid was one of my favourite places to be in.

Would never guess that it is the oldest, but it is definitely beautiful and worth dropping by. I always prefer lakes to sea. That is why I live in Finland now I guess.

The water looks amazing not like the lakes I grew up with lol. The houses are so big and beautiful also and have the perfect spot for the lake action.

It’s interesting that the water is moving all the time, springs on one side of the lake and river floating out of the lake on the other side. That’s one of the reasons to be very clean.
Thank you for reading!
